The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) was founded in 1947 in order to establish and refine technical and quality management standards for business and industrial enterprises around the world. The organization’s latest and most comprehensive standards certification is ISO 9001:2000. For manufacturers, it is the gold standard for exemplary quality management, production, and resource utilization systems.
FDA
The U S. Food and Drug Administration is a scientific, regulatory, and public health agency that oversees most aspects of production for food and medical products. The agency grew from a single chemist in the U.S. Department of Agriculture in 1862 to a staff of approximately 9,100 employees and a budget of nearly $1.3 billion in 2001. As they like to say in the food and drug businesses, the FDA is not only a good idea, it’s the law.
